Traveling from Kolkata to Mumbai, on 22.01.23 on the Mumbai Howrah Mail, Train number 12810 in AC II, I encountered an unsettling experience that I feel compelled to share. A notice on the coach door disclaims the Coach Attendant’s responsibility for passengers’ luggage safety. This unexpected message lacks clarity on its issuing authority. When I queried the Train Ticket Examiner (TT), traditionally responsible for the coach’s care, he verbally confirmed that the Railway Board had mandated such instructions. Despite my disbelief, the TT insisted it was true, shifting responsibility away from the operating staff.
